Statement:
A stray cat has been visiting my urban backyard garden lately. I don’t know where the cat comes from or goes to. It has white fur with black patches. I have seen other cats like it on my street, in a rapidly-gentrifying Brooklyn neighborhood where mommies pushing babies in $1000 strollers walk blithely past a thriving corner drug trade. In a place like this, a stray cat might enjoy a mild, all-natural hallucinogen.
On May 2, 2007, I will plant three catnip plants in my backyard in the hope that the cat will visit and enjoy them sometime during the summer. I will document the plants’ growth and try to record the cat’s interaction with the work.
